A New Arrival…

birth announcement ruth crilly

For those who don’t follow me on Twitter or Instagram, an important update: New Baby has arrived! A boy! He was delivered on Friday 3rd February weighing in at 9lbs 7oz and he is just absolutely perfect in every single way. (Not the seventy eight thousand kilos I was led to expect, but then I suppose if I’d left things naturally and had him at 42 weeks like Angelica then there could have been big trouble as he’d very well have been edging over the ten and a half pounds mark and up towards eleven…) Everything went very well in terms of the c-section and we were home the next day after a stay of around twenty-seven hours. Which I have mixed feelings about, but that’s for another post.

On that note; I have so many posts in the making! I’d forgotten how boring it can be recuperating, when the newborn is asleep, so I’ve actually been rather productive, including drafting a rudimentary sort of “birth story”, some thoughts on the c-section procedure and recovery process and a load more gumph that’s been floating about in my head. Does any of this sound appealing or helpful? I’ll probably write it all down anyway…

ruth crilly and baby son

For now, I must get on with sleeping. Because opportunity has been rather sparse – New Baby has been having a little crazy session every night from about 11pm until 4am (I know!) and making the hours up in the daytime never works, does it? I mean, I can nap like an absolute pro, but I’m never going to get a full five hours slotted in – by the time I’ve done essential stuff like eat and go to the toilet and spend time with Angelica and check Rightmove for fantasy houses, it’s almost time for bed again…

So I just wanted to update you on the family news – we are all over the moon with our new addition, there’s a proper warm glow going on in the house that feels like we’re in one of those candlelit Christmas card scenes. Everything in order, both babies (big and tiny) safe in our arms…now all we need to do is to think of a name.

Amazing news Ruth! Absolutely delighted for you and Mr. AMR. I’m sure Angelica will be a great big sister! That is a very sweet photo of the three of you. Glad all went well and looking forward to hearing all about it 🙂 xx

Dear Ruth, I’ve been following you for years, over on AMR and on the uphill too since you started it. This is my first ever post btw. I’m so happy for you and congrats to this lovely addition to your family! I’m only a month older than you and have no kids (and currently no desire to have any) but I thoroughly enjoy reading and “sharing” your experiences outside the beauty world. All the best to the AMR family, Lisa

Hi Ruth, what a beautiful new addition to the family. Congratulations! I would love to hear how a second C section and subsequent recovery has been. I had an emergency section with my little one and will need another section if I do have another baby. Hope you have a super speedy recovery. Also would love to know how the breastfeeding goes when you have toddler in tow! xxx

High congratulations for the new arrival! I had my second baby girl just a month ago and I can fully understand what you are going through. I’d love to read about your c-section experience. Personally I had two natural births . In one of your previous posts you mentioned that you were given the chance to choose between a scheduled c-section and a natural birth. I am Italian and in Italy after the first cesarean you don’t have choice but to have another one. Unless there is a 4/5 years gap between the deliveries. Also the time you spend in the hospital is different. Here you stay in hospital for at least 3 days, especially with cesarean. And you can’t leave the hospital with a nameless baby

Congratulations Ruth! So pleased for you. Such a gorgeous family! Really looking forward to your posts. I had a little boy three weeks ago and his sister is just over 20 months so a very similar situation to you (apart from the fact you look totally under control and I am a complete mess!). I think boys names are really hard and we still haven’t picked one – we have to register him in a couple of weeks so we’ll have to make our mind up by then! All the best. F X

27 hours is not long for a c-section. How did you manage this good recovery? I would love to read your birth story.
    Good job!
Our little boy’s name is Jonathan. This was my husbands idea and I have to say I love it. It is international 🙂

Sending so many congratulations, Ruth! You must be so pleased! Enjoy having one of each!
I am 34 and still without children. It’s just never seemed the right time and I am starting to think I should have them sooner rather than later…or is that just the pressure of modern society?! Hmmm….who knows. Anyhoo, hope you have a speedy recovery and I am looking forward to more posts soon!

A massive congratulations again to your lovely little family. Have you come any closer to picking a name? Think your right and he’d have probably been bigger if he’d gone as long as Angelica! Xx

Congratulations Ruth! Although I was about 6 weeks behind you, my baby arrived by c-section due to preeclampsia on exactly the same day!! So slightly the reverse – teeny tiny and still in hospital, but doing well. I am so happy for you all! Wishing you all the best for these early days x

Congratulations! How wonderful for you all! I’ll be up with you, feeding my 16-week-old as she has decided waking several times a night as she did when newborn is a good idea. I try to remember to cherish these moments and I know she needs me/the extra nourishment that only I can provide.

Congratulations Ruth to you and your family! A boy how sweet now you have one of each !!
As others have said before, I too absolutely love reading both of your blogs, I spent many night-feeds ( in the early months with my now six month old boy) catching up on your posts, reading/watching and chuckling to myself and trying not to disturb my baba!! It was really uplifting for me especially in those early sleep deprived weeks and I would skip through your baby/body updates with Angelica to see what I could look forward to with my own baby. I don’t how you juggle it all but I do hope you continue to share your journey with both Angelica and baby number two… parenthood is the most challenging job for which we no training or preparation and are just learning all the time… it’s so reassuring to read about other people’s experiences!
Right back to trying to get a wired baby to nap
Oh yes and that newborn smell… lap it up!!!!!
    Much love xxxxxxxxx

Here are all my boy names suggestions: Felix, Hamish, Magnus, Aleric, Leo, Moses, Ferdinand, Hector, Atticus, Cassius, Albert, Gilbert, Caspian, Rory, Remus, Hugo, Theo, Gus, Angus, Gabriel, Jesse, Barnaby, Rufus, Caspar, Roan, Teddy, Ferdinand. OH, or Wilfred (Wilf or Wilfie for short – my son’s name. And he’s amazing.)

Massive congratulations on the birth of your little boy. What a lush little fam you’ve got. I too have a boy and a girl. Sending well wishes to you all. xxx

So many congratulations, so glad to hear all is happy and well. I’d definitely love to read all the posts you have mentioned above. My second is due in May and I’ve been really enjoying all your thoughts and musings and musing along with you! X

  32. February 8, 2017 / 2:45 pm

Congratulations Ruth! Why is anything for 7 or 8 lbs considered large in England? Both mine (I’m Canadian) were over 9 lbs and thats the norm back home. Maybe its all that space in Canada eh?

I hope Angelica is pleased with her little brother. What a lovely adventure for her, becoming a big sister! Take care of yourselves!

I think anything over 8.5 is considered big, I might be wrong. 8 is average I think?

Love to hear what you think of being discharged earlier. For my first (18 months ago!)
